PROGRAMS
Programs
Our Careers Team provide a variety of programs and learning opportunities to support students’ exploration and understanding of the world of work, some of which include:
Subject selection
Stage 5 and 6 students are involved in guided workshops where they can learn more about the courses offered to make informed choices about their pathway planning. Year 10 students transitioning into Year 11 will be required to attend a Subject Selection evening where information will be provided to assist students and families in their selection of senior courses. Several staff members will be available on the night for you to ask questions and seek advice regarding subject choices. Further information can be found here.
Transition support
For students looking to leave school after achieving their Year 10 RoSA (Record of School Achievement) they must be engaged in full time work, TAFE or an Apprenticeship/Traineeship. Click here for more information on the NSW school leaving age.
UTS U@Uni Academy
The U@Uni Academy is an alternate, non-ATAR entry pathway for selected Bonnyrigg High School students that focuses on 21st century skills, on-campus experiences and transition support from high school to university. The program runs for two years, starting at the beginning of year 11 and upon successful completion, students will receive an offer to study one of the undergraduate courses offered at UTS.
Work Experience
Students in Year 10 are encouraged to complete a Work Experience program in Term 4, which provides participating students the opportunity to gain insight into a particular industry, increase employability skills and improve future employment opportunities by enhancing their resume to secure casual/part-time work. Students are responsible for organising their own placement, with support from Careers Advisers.

Yourtown
This initiative is an intensive employment and training program for young people aged 15-19. Yourtown's Get Back in the Game (GBIG) is fully funded by the NSW Government (therefore FREE!) and helps young people build their confidence and knowledge as well as develop skillsets, obtain qualifications, and provide opportunities to access pathways to employment and/or education.
SBA/Ts
School Based Apprenticeships and Traineeships (SBA/Ts)
School Based Apprenticeships and Traineeships (SBA/Ts) are available to all Year 10, 11 and 12 high school students in NSW. They allow students to commence an apprenticeship or complete a traineeship while at school. School-based apprenticeships and traineeships (SBA/Ts) are more than just part-time jobs. They are a great way for students to set themselves up for the career they want while completing their HSC. Opportunities are available across a wide range of occupations.
TAFE at School (EVET)
Students at Bonnyrigg High School have the option to study a VET course through TAFE NSW or other training providers. You’ll get a head start while still at school with an EVET course. Some of the courses you can study include Beauty, Community Services, Barbering, Plumbing, Warehousing, Electrotechnology and more, TAFE have just about all interests and industries covered. EVET courses are available to all students in Year 11 and 12 (Stage 6), as well as students in Year 9 and 10 (stage 5).
Stage 6 EVET courses count towards your HSC, and some courses can even contribute towards your Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR). To view the available options and discover which EVET pathway is right for you, download a copy of the EVET guide today.
If you are considering an EVET course, please consider the following:
- EVET courses may require study outside of school hours, courses can run in the afternoon or over a full school day.

- Students are responsible for their own transport to and from the TAFE campus.
