Our policies and reports

Our policies and reports help families understand how our school works. Our annual report and school plan show what we’ve done and how we’re improving each year.  Our policies address attendance, absences, behaviour, uniform and how we respond to your concerns.

Annual school report

Each year, we share our progress in the annual school report. It gives families a clear picture of how our school is performing and how we’re supporting every student’s success. The report reflects our commitment to openness, accountability and continuous improvement.

School behaviour support and management plan

Our school has a school behaviour support and management plan (SBSMP). The SBSMP helps us create a safe, respectful and supportive learning environment for all students. It sets clear expectations for student behaviour. This includes how we respond to bullying and cyberbullying. We work together with our school community to shape the plan and review it each year.

Our school uses the department's  School Community Charter to ensure all of our communication is collaborative and respectful.

Attendance and absences

Students must attend school regularly so they can achieve their educational best and increase their career and life options.

In NSW, all children from the age of 6 are legally required to attend school or be  registered for home schooling through the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA). All students must complete Year 10, or its equivalent.

Young people below the age of 17 who have completed Year 10 must be:

  • in school, or registered for home schooling
  • in approved education or training, such as a traineeship, apprenticeship or TAFE
  • in full-time paid employment (average 25 hours a week)
  • in a combination of work, education and/or training (average of 25 hours a week combined).

Students 17 years and over who are enrolled in school must attend school regularly to meet HSC course requirements.

As a parent or carer, you are responsible for ensuring your child attends school every day when they are of compulsory school age. You must explain all absences to the school within 7 days.

Uniform policy

At Bonnyrigg High School, we take great pride in our school uniform. Wearing our uniform is more than just a requirement; it is an important part of our identity as a school and community. Here are a few reasons why wearing our uniform is essential:

  1. Sense of Belonging: Our uniform fosters a sense of unity and belonging among students. When we wear our school colours, we are reminded that we are all part of the Bonnyrigg High School family, working together towards common goals.
  2. Representation and Pride: Wearing our uniform is a way to represent our school with pride. It shows that we value our school’s values, traditions, and achievements. Every time we wear our uniform, we become ambassadors of Bonnyrigg High School, showcasing our commitment to excellence and respect.
  3. Promoting Inclusivity: A uniform policy fosters an inclusive environment for all students. By wearing the same attire, it helps eliminate social barriers and creates a sense of community, allowing everyone to feel valued and accepted. This inclusive atmosphere enables students to focus on their education and personal growth rather than on differences in clothing styles or economic backgrounds.
  4. Promoting Responsibility: Adhering to a uniform policy encourages students to take responsibility for their appearance. It instills a sense of pride in how they present themselves and highlights the importance of maintaining a polished and respectful look in various settings.
  5. Safety and Security: Uniforms help to easily identify students as members of our school community. This not only promotes safety but also helps to create a more secure environment.

As we embrace our updated uniform policy, let us remember the significance of our uniform in representing Bonnyrigg High School. Together, we can continue to demonstrate our pride and commitment to our school values.

Bring your own device (BYOD)

What is BYOD?

BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) allows students to bring their own devices to school, enhancing their classroom learning experience. In today's digital era, it is essential for students to master technology to excel in a constantly evolving workforce. Through collaborative problem-solving and creative thinking, students will also develop skills to use technology responsibly and ethically.

Which device?

Students are allowed to bring a laptop or notebook computer to school, provided that the device meets the specifications outlined by the school. These devices are available for purchase from various computer retailers such as Harvey Norman, JBHIFI, Bing Lee, The Good Guys, and other outlets.

Device specifications

Wireless connectivity

Wireless devices must be compatible with the 802.11n 5GHz dual-band wireless standard to connect to our network. Devices that do not meet this requirement will not be able to establish a connection.

Hardware, storage and RAM

Devices should feature at least 11-inch screen, a suitable keyboard, USB connectivity, a built-in webcam and microphone, as well as 1T storage and 16GB RAM.

Operating system

Devices should operate on the most recent version of the correct operating system.

Software and apps

For students to access the free Microsoft Office 365 and Adobe Creative Cloud, their devices must have a web browser installed. If students need help obtaining the free software, they can reach out to the TSO for assistance.

Battery life

Devices should have a minimum battery life of 7 hours without the need for charging. Before school starts each day, devices must be fully charged. Charging devices at school is not allowed. It is the student's responsibility to ensure their devices are fully charged daily.

Get involved

To start using your device at school, students and parents need to sign the BYOD user charter which can be found on the school website or on SchoolBytes and submit it to the front office. Students are responsible for keeping their devices safe and secure and must use them in line with Bonnyrigg High School and Department of Education guidelines.

Other devices

Smartphones, iPod Touch, iPads, smartwatches, earphones, and wireless earphones are not permitted.  These devices are generally equipped with SIM cards are fall under the department's mobile phone ban.

I am concerned about device security.

Please Note: The school does not

  • own the device.
  • support the device.
  • warranty the device.

If you are concerned the device is going to be broken, lost, or stolen, you may wish to consider specific "Accidental Loss and Breakage" insurance for the device.  Another option is to check with your current insurer and see if this can be added to your contents insurance.

You may also consider using a device locator service. These services include the "Find my iPad" service built into Apple iOS devices or preyproject.com/download for Mac and Windows.

Internet access on the device will be filtered at school and students will be prohibited from connecting to other networks while at school.
